Published: 24 July 2018

Students and faculty from the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology (ECP) returned from the NCPG annual conference with some unexpected trophies in their luggage.

Congratulations to Master's student Yaxi Zhao, who received the Outstanding Master's Thesis Award for her thesis, “Adolescent Multiple Engagement in Addictive Behaviors and the Role of Parents.”

The International Centre for Youth Gambling and High-Risk Behaviours also won the annual Corporate Newsletter Award for their newsletter, edited by Lynette Gilbeau.

The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) serves as the national (US) advocate for programs and services to assist problem gamblers and their families. Their 32nd annual conference was held July 20-21 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Jeff Derevensky, Chair of ECP and Director of the Centre for Youth Gambling and High-Risk Behaviours, delivered the keynote address at the conference, titled “Youth Gambling Issues: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”. Last year Dr. Derevensky received the NCPG's Lifetime Research Award in recognition of his exceptional achievements in the field of gambling research.
