Overview

The PhD program integrates doctoral students into the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences's dynamic and multidisciplinary research structure. Doctoral supervisors have a strong record of national and international leadership with extensive collaborations with other departments, faculties, and universities working in diverse research areas, including biomaterials, mineralized tissues, nanobiotechnology, tissue engineering, pain, epidemiology, public health, Indigenous health, oral health research, clinical research, dental education, and knowledge translation. These research areas are organized into four research clusters, each of which includes prominent researchers:

The program was created to train health science students in advanced research in a variety of health-related fields. The Faculty’s rigorous program includes required courses (12 credits), complementary courses (6-12 credits), a required comprehensive exam, extensive research, and the writing and defense of a thesis. Together, these requirements will provide students with the skills necessary to research essential biomedical and oral health problems. Students will also learn about academic integrity and professionalism, hone effective communication and leadership skills, and master teamwork and collaborative problem solving through both coursework and research activities in the Faculty.

All programs leading to graduate degrees at McGill University are administered by the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office (GPS). Please refer to the Future Graduate Students website for general information regarding admissions.
