Nitya Iyer

Nitya Iyer joined Lovett Westmacott as a partner in 2011, after practicing at a national law firm for ten years. Previously, she was an associate professor at the University of British Columbia. She was a full-time member of the BC Human Rights Tribunal from 1997 to 2000. She has been the Equal Pay Commissioner of the Northwest Territories since 2004. Nitya practices in the fields of administrative and constitutional law, with special expertise in human rights, pay equity and freedom of information. She advises governments, regulatory bodies, and the private sector, providing policy advice and representation. She has appeared before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Nitya also acts as in a neutral capacity. She investigates and mediates complaints under internal discrimination, harassment and whistleblower policies for public and private sector organizations. She co-authored Implementing Inclusion: A Consultation on Organizational Change to support UBC’s Commitments to Equity and Diversity in 2013 and the Report of the Task Force on Misogyny, Sexism and Homophobia in the Dalhousie University Faculty of Dentistry in 2015.
