Desautels professors awarded IVADO research funding

Published: 1 July 2020

Four Desautels professors have been awarded research grants by the Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO), a Montreal-based scientific and economic data science hub. The grants will fund three two-year research projects led by Desautels professors as part of IVADO’s Fundamental Research Funding Program.

Professors Saibal Ray and Maxime Cohen of the Bensadoun School of Retail Management will receive $221,000 to investigate the use of AI techniques to efficiently provide higher convenience for retail customers while being socially responsible. The research will be based on findings from the McGill Retail Innovational Lab, a fully functioning retail store operated by an industry partner with extensive sensing, data access, and customer monitoring.

Academic Director of the Master of Management in Analytics (MMA) Professor Mehmet Gumus is set to receive $195,000 in funding. In collaboration with colleagues at HEC Montréal, Queen’s University and MIT, Professor Gumus will undertake a research project on the data-driven demand learning and sharing strategies for two-sided online marketplaces.

Wei Qi, Professor of Operations Management, has been awarded more than $170,000 by the Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO), a Montreal-based scientific and economic data science hub.

Awarded as part of the Fundamental Research Funding Program at IVADO, this grant will support Professor Qi’s two-year research project titled Deals on Wheels: Advancing Joint ML/OR Methodologies for Enabling City-Wide, Personalized and Mobile Retail.
