University of Ghana

The University of Ghana (UG), located in Legon just northeast of Accra, is Ghana’s oldest and largest public university. Established in 1948, UG is center of academic excellence and research on the African continent. With a student population of over 60,000 across its main campus and satellite campuses, UG offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs that span the humanities, sciences and social sciences. 

The university is organized into four colleges - the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, the College of Health Sciences, the College of Education, and the College of Humanities. It is also home to renowned institutes and research centers such as the Institute of African Studies, the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, and the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement. The Balme Library, one of the largest academic libraries in West Africa, serves as a major intellectual hub for students and researchers. 

UG is committed to academic excellence, leadership development, and global relevance. Through strategic partnerships, community engagement, and cutting-edge research, the university continues to make significant contributions to Ghana’s development and to global scholarship. It has produced generations of influential leaders in government, academia, business, and civil society, and remains a key institution shaping the future of higher education on the African continent.
