UHAS Campus

University of Health and Allied Sciences

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), located in Ho in Ghana’s Volta Region, is a public university dedicated exclusively to training health professionals. Established in 2011 by an Act of Parliament (Act 828), UHAS welcomed its first cohort of students in 2012 and has since grown into a national center of excellence in health education, research, and service. With campuses in Ho and Hohoe, the university plays a vital role in strengthening Ghana’s health system by producing highly skilled graduates committed to health for development.

UHAS offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs through its eight schools: Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing and Midwifery, Allied Health Sciences, Basic and Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Sports and Exercise Medicine, and Dentistry. The university is also home to two specialized research institutes—the Institute of Health Research and the Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicine—supporting applied research and community-based solutions to public health challenges.

Guided by its motto “Health for Development,” UHAS emphasizes hands-on training, interprofessional collaboration, and outreach. Its academic programs are supported by practical internships, clinical rotations, and partnerships with local and international health institutions. UHAS is also recognized for its growing research impact, ranking 1st in Ghana and 7th in Africa in the AD Scientific Index (2025), and for leading national progress on Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), according to Times Higher Education (2023).

With a commitment to innovation, ethical leadership, and community impact, UHAS continues to shape the future of healthcare in Ghana and the region, preparing graduates to meet the evolving needs of public health and clinical practice in a rapidly changing world.
