Eligibility Requirements

School of Continuing Studies Students | McGill Alumni

Undergraduate and Graduate Degree Students

Because CaPS is funded by the compulsory McGill Student Services Fee, all full-time, part-time, visiting, and exchange degree students at McGill are eligible to use all of our services, including myFuture, free of charge.

After graduation, alumni can continue to use CaPS services for free up to one year after the end of the last semester in which they paid their Student Service fees. For the second and third years following graduation, alumni may opt-in to CaPS services by paying $60.00 (plus applicable taxes) per term. The timeframes of these terms are from September to December, January to April and May to August.

Please note that payment for the CaPS fee can only be made by a credit card (VISA or Mastercard), debit card or cheque. No cash.

School of Continuing Studies Students

(formerly Centre for Continuing Education)

Because Continuing Studies (CS) students are not obligated to pay the McGill Student Services Fee that degree students pay, CS students cannot have free access to CaPS’ services. However, CS students can opt-in to all of CaPS’ services if:

  • They are enrolled in a program (such as a diploma, certificate or special intensive language program) AND
  • They pay the CaPS fee of $60.00 (plus applicable taxes) per term, OR they pay the optional Student Services package fee per term. The timeframes of the terms are from September to December, January to April and May to August.

Please note that payment for the CaPS fee can only be made by a credit card (VISA or Mastercard), debit card or cheque. No cash.

Alumni who have graduated from a Continuing Studies program can pay for and use CaPS services for up to one year after graduation.

McGill Alumni

How CaPS can help McGill alumni & how McGill alumni can help current students

McGill Alumni who graduated with either a Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D. degree have access for life to the “myFuture” job search and career tools suite free of charge. However, Alumni do not have access to Information Sessions and are not eligible to participate in on-campus recruitment campaigns (which are reserved for current graduating students), but are encouraged to apply on their own.

How to register for myFuture (for alumni who graduated in May 2007 or later)

You should already have a profile in myFuture. Go to: http://csm-caps.mcgill.ca/students and sign in. If you have any difficulty, phone CaPS at 514-398-3304.

How to register for myFuture (for alumni who graduated before May 2007)

Alumni who graduated before May 2007 must register in order to create their own profiles in myFuture. Some faculties have their own career centres which have different policies regarding service to alumni, so please send an email to the appropriate link below to register:

In your email, include your full name, McGill ID number, Faculty, year of graduation and major, email address, current mailing address and phone number.

Important Notes

Although all alumni will have access to myFuture, access to other CaPS services (e.g. one-to-one advising, the Mentor Program, PACE Program, the Job Finding Club) will be restricted. All services will be free for up to one year after the end of the last semester in which they paid their Student Service fees. For the second and third years following graduation, alumni may opt-in to all services by paying $60.00 (plus applicable taxes) per term. The timeframes of these terms are from September to December, January to April and May to August. Service is not available after three years.

Please note that alumni are not eligible to participate in on-campus recruitment campaigns (which are reserved for current graduating students), but are encouraged to apply on their own.

The faculties of Law, Engineering and Management have their own career centres which have different policies regarding service to alumni. Please contact them for details.
