For Students
Will all SIS fall courses be delivered remotely?
Yes. There will be some teaching hubs on the McGill campus but none will involve SIS.
Will a 3-hour lecture be replaced with a 3-hour Zoom session?
No. Course lectures will be packaged into shorter Zoom sessions (e.g. 10-15 mins) and they will be supplemented by other course activities.
Will I be required to attend any synchronous events during the scheduled course time?
Any synchronous activities will be optional, will not be graded and will always have an asynchronous alternative in order not to penalize any students who are not in the Montreal time zone during the fall. Any synchronous events will be recorded and posted on myCourses.
Can I drop in to courses before deciding whether or not to register in them?
You are encouraged to look at the course web syllabi (URL) and register for courses whenever possible.
How can I meet with my academic advisor or any SIS administrative contact this fall?
Please request meetings by email and a remote meeting will be set up.
Can I get a laptop loan? Can I borrow a microphone/camera or other AV materials?
The information on borrowing AV equipment and laptops can be found at: https://mcgill.service-now.com/itportal?id=kb_article&sysparm_article=KB0010873#How

Can I print something out on campus?
Access to McGill buildings is still restricted. I can authorize access in exceptional circumstances (e.g. a PhD student asked to print out a copy of their thesis so they could have it during their defence). For 617 students, the best option would be to reserve space in the study hub where they would also have access to uPrint. They can't drop in -they do have to book a time. The information for the study hubs in libraries can be found at: https://www.mcgill.ca/library/about/study-hubs.
"Printing using U-Print is available only for students who have booked a timeslot in the Redpath Library or Law Library Study Hub. Drop-in printing is not available."
For Instructors
Can I organize an informal meet and greet outdoors on campus grounds to get a chance to meet the students in person ?
No. On campus face-to-face meetings have not been authorized for our School
Are we aware of any student registered in my class that will be experiencing time-zone issues because of their planned location during the term ?
We only know that approx. 65% of students who responded to a survey this summer indicated they were intending to be in Montreal in the fall. We have to assume that there will be some time zone issues. All students have been informed that they will not penalized in any way if they are not physically on campus in the fall.
Can I ask my students if they are in the Montreal time zone?
It is better to ask your students if they require any accommodations during the course which could include time zone accommodations. Remember to refer students to the Office for Student Disabilities (OSD) should they require specific accommodations.
What happens with any winter or summer K grades (incomplete)?
While a K grade would normally automatically be converted into a KF, all K grades will exceptionally be extended to the end of the fall semester due to COVID-19.
Can I meet with my students face-to-face?
No. All meetings will be conducted remotely.
