School of Information Studies @ ASIS&T 2013 Annual Meeting

The McGill School of Information Studies (SIS) is strongly represented at the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) 76th Annual Meeting, Nov. 1-5 in Montreal.

The conference is co-chaired by Dr. France Bouthillier, SIS Director and faculty member. Faculty, affiliated researchers, and students are participating in panels and workshops and presenting papers and posters.

The ASIS&T Annual Meeting brings together research on advances in the information sciences and related applications of information technology, serving as a venue for dissemination. This year’s theme, "Beyond the Cloud: Rethinking Information Boundaries," encourages reflection on changes in the use of information and means of accessibility which impact human information interaction and the potential implications of these changes for information science and technology.

  • Questioning the Visual: Research Methods and the Problem of Perception. Panelists include faculty member Dr. Elaine Ménard.
  • Information Representation and Browsing. Paper: "Exact versus Estimated Pruning of Subject Hierarchies". Faculty member Dr. Charles-Antoine Julien with Pierre Tirilly, Université de Lille, France.
  • Making Publics 2.0: Humanities Data Linked through a Topical Repository. Panelists include faculty member Dr. Eun Park & PhD student Qing Zou.
  • Digital Liaisons: Engaging with Digital Curation Theory and Practice: Panelists include faculty member Dr. Elaine Ménard.
  • Enabling Systems for Inquiry-Based Learning. Panelists include faculty member Dr. Jamshid Beheshti & Research Affiliate Dr. Charles Cole.

The School will be hosting a dinner for registered conference guests at the McGill Faculty Club on Tuesday at 7:30 pm, co-sponsored by the Canadian Association for Information Science.
