Limin Jao (DISE) Appointed as McGill's Ombudsperson for Students

As the Ombudsperson for Students, Dr. Limin Jao (she/her) provides an independent, impartial, and confidential service through which students may seek equitable and informal resolution of any University-related concern. The Ombudsperson may also, where appropriate, review University policies, guidelines, and procedures affecting students, make recommendations for change, and promote discussion of student-related concerns across the University.
Limin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) and has held several academic leadership roles at McGill, including Interim Department Chair and Graduate Program Director. She is a recipient of the Faculty of Education’s Award for Distinguished Teaching, and her research focuses on exemplary teaching practice and teacher education—both pre-service and in-service—with particular emphasis on mathematics and STE(A)M education. Her work explores how meaningful learning environments are created through interdisciplinary, project-based, and student-directed approaches, and how educators navigate and grow within their professional contexts.
As Ombudsperson, Limin aims to approach the role with care, thoughtfulness, and integrity. She understands that navigating concerns can be complex and is committed to supporting processes that are fair and respectful. With a strong belief in equity and open communication, she strives to create space for students’ experiences and to contribute to a university culture where students feel supported.
