Yu Chen Shi

Yu Chen Shi completed her high school studies at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf in the program Latin Languages and Civilisations, where her interests for social sciences developed alongside her love for chemistry and mathematics. Now a CEGEP student in the Arts and Science program at the same college, Yu Chen wants to orient her future studies towards the field of psychiatry.

Apart from her studies, Yu Chen undertakes many volunteer activities. She is notably involved in the administrative council of her school’s cooperative store, as well as in many cultural events, such as Matsuri, a Japanese summer festival, and Otakuthon, the largest animation and manga festival in Quebec. She is also a volunteer at the Institut de réadaptation Gingras-Lindsay-de-Montréal.

Yu Chen, under the supervision of Drs. King and Laplante, will have the opportunity to take part in the Iowa Flood Study during her internship in scientific research at the Douglas mental health university institute. Her study will examine the potential predictors of the presence of a discrepancy between pregnant women’s subjective levels of distress and objective levels of hardship in the context of a natural disaster.
