Welcome to the Project Ice Storm (Projet Verglas) website! Project Ice Storm was initiated within months of the January 1998 ice storm that knocked out the electrical power grid in southern Quebec, Canada, for 3 million people for as long as 40 days in the coldest month of the year. Taking advantage of this, the worst natural disaster in Canadian history, we recruited nearly 150 families in which the mother was pregnant during the storm. Effects of the severity and timing of stress exposure have been found in every area of physical, cognitive and behavioural development we have examined to date.
This site will provide an abundant amount of information regarding the present and past projects.
