Professional Liability

All McGill residents and fellows are required to have malpractice liability coverage for the entirety of their training. It is your responsibility to have adequate coverage. For further information, please refer to the FMRQ website.

Coverage applies while carrying out your clinical duties in accordance with the program listed on your Collège des Médecins (“CMQ”) training card.

RAMQ-funded trainees:

  • you are automatically covered under your base hospital's malpractice insurance.

Non-RAMQ-funded trainees:

  • registered in a program which is 2 years in length or longer: you are automatically covered under your base hospital's malpractice insurance.
  • registered in a program which is less than 2 years in length: you must obtain malpractice insurance through the CMPA. Please apply for CMPA membership and send a copy of your malpractice insurance coverage confirmation to dataprocessing.med [at] mcgill.ca before the first day of your training.
