Expert: Cat in Quebec contracts rabies
Pet owners are being urged to vaccinate their animals after rabies was confirmed in a stray cat in the Montérégie region for the first time, as raccoon rabies continues to spread in southeastern Quebec.
A McGill expert is available to comment:
Michael Libman, MD, is a Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases and a member of the Centre for Tropical Diseases at McGill University. He can speak to the risk of rabies transmission to humans, what to do in case of bites or contact with wildlife and the importance of such vaccination campaigns in reducing public health risks.
