McGill welcomes prospective students

Annual Open House set for January 29

McGill University will welcome prospective students at Open House on Sunday, January 29. More than 3,500 visitors from Quebec, Ontario, the United States and overseas are expected to visit McGill's downtown campus.

Prospective students and their families will tour McGill's landmark buildings, meet with faculty, participate in interactive student panels, and meet with admissions officers as well as student services staff.

A free shuttle bus service to and from Open House has been set up to serve areas of Quebec beyond greater Montreal. The shuttle reflects the importance of McGill's growing francophone enrolment, which already numbers more than 6,000 students. "Students have been writing their papers and doing their exams in French at McGill for over 25 years, and now enjoy many services and extra-curricular activities in French that enrich their campus experience," said Wendy Brett, First-Year Francophone Coordinator, Student Services.

Highlights of the day include:

  • campus tours: January 29, 11:00 am-4:00 pm
  • information sessions tailored for newly admitted students
  • concerts performed by students at the Schulich School of Music
  • tours of McGill's state of-the-art fitness centre

Professors and scholars from the University's 21 faculties and professional schools will be on hand to answer questions. Displays and demonstrations will be held in Redpath Hall (861 Sherbrooke St. W.), the Macdonald Engineering Building (817 Sherbrooke St. W.), the University Centre (3480 McTavish St.), the Bronfman Building (1001 Sherbrooke St. W.) and the Strathcona Music Building (555 Sherbrooke St. W.).
