Budget: McGill welcomes renewed support for research

McGill University welcomes the investments in science and research announced today as part of Finance Minister Jim Flaherty’s budget. These measures include new funding for an International Education Strategy.
"In this austerity context, we appreciate the renewed commitment to research through the three funding councils, the Canada Foundation for Innovation and Genome Canada, as well as the possibility for universities to compete for funding from the new Building Canada Plan," said Prof. Heather Munroe-Blum, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University. "Going forward, investments in the knowledge economy will be key to ensuring Canada’s competitiveness on a global stage. We look forward to working with the Government of Canada to maintain our nation’s research and innovation capacity.”

“Moreover, we applaud the particular attention that will be paid to the Indirect Costs Program over the coming year, in consultation with the post-secondary sector, so that the program can meet its objective of reinforcing excellence in post-secondary research," she concluded.
