Living Well as We Age

Join us for a welcoming and thought‑provoking half‑day event exploring what it truly means to live well as we age.

Organized by the McGill Community for Lifelong Learning (MCLL) — a non‑profit, volunteer‑based learning centre for seniors and lifelong learners, this gathering offers an opportunity to learn and connect in a friendly setting.

The morning will feature an introduction to MCLL, a keynote presentation, and a series of concurrent talks on nutrition, health, and wellness, led by experienced MCLL volunteer lecturers. Together, the sessions will explore themes of healthy aging, the impact of nutrition and the environment, and the science behind life longevity.

Schedule

10:00 - 10:30 AM — Welcome and Introductory Presentation: What is MCLL?
10:35 - 11:15 AM — Keynote lecture: "An Athlete’s Spirit at Any Age Through Nutrition and Physical Activity" by Dr. Hugues Plourde.
11:45 AM - 12:45 PM — Three concurrent lectures by MCLL lecturers:

  • "Aging and the Musculoskeletal System" by Lawrence Lincoln, retired orthopedic surgeon.

  • "Nutrition is What We Eat and Digest" by Prithu Mukhopadhyay, scientist, PhD in chemistry.
  • "Longevity: Science and Imagination" by Ron Vexler, retired cardiologist.

12:45 - onwards — Questions about the MCLL and the satellite campus, refreshments, networking.

Refreshments

We will provide coffee, tea, water and sweets, as well as vegetable and sandwich platters at the networking session following the lectures.

Important Information

Getting to the Venue

The event will be held at the Centennial Centre on the Macdonald Campus of McGill University. Below is the map showing the building's location on campus.

Our volunteers will greet you at the back entrance, next to the parking lot. The front entrance will be closed due to renovations. Click one of the buttons below to get directions to the parking lot behind the Centennial Building on your app of choice.

If you are not using a GPS device, look for directional signs leading to the Centennial Building's parking lot when you arrive on campus. A photo of the back entrance to the Centennial Building located next to the parking lot is available below.

Public Transport

  • If travelling from downtown, take the metro to Lionel-Groulx station, and then the 405 bus until the terminus. Note that the travel time on a bus is 50 minutes, and it has two departures at 8:16 and 8:49 am.
  • If travelling from a location other than downtown, please use the STM Trip Planner to find the best public transit route.

Parking

Parking will cost $8 per spot. Please park behind the Centennial Building and proceed to the event registration desk through the back entrance to pay for your parking permit in cash or by e-transfer. Campus Security will not issue tickets to event attendees before the event starts.

Considering the expected number of attendees, we suggest arriving early (between 9:15 and 9:45 am) to get your parking permit without hassle.

Accessibility

Unfortunately, the back entrance to the Centennial Building is not accessible to people with reduced mobility, and we cannot use the front entrance due to renovations. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Expansion of MCLL to Macdonald Campus

This event is organized by the McGill Community for Lifelong Learning (MCLL) — a non‑profit, senior-led learning centre for seniors and lifelong learners, currently based at the School of Continuing Studies on the Downtown Campus. MCLL is currently considering an expansion to the Macdonald Campus, where seniors based in the West Island could host peer-led study groups. More information about the project will be provided at the event.
