Potter: How the Citizen helped create a shared community in Ottawa | Ottawa Citizen
This year marks the 175th anniversary of the Ottawa Citizen, a newspaper known for serving (and bringing together) three distinct constituencies: residents of the municipality of Ottawa, members of the National Capital Region public service, and citizens from across Canada. In this article, Andrew Potter, a member of the Max Bell School teaching staff and a former editor of the Citizen, reflects on the crucial role that newspaper has played throughout its history and muses on the future of Canada's financially-troubled media ecosystem.
