Diss: Investigating Sound Change in Twi Vowel Harmony: A Sociophonetic Study of Age, Gender, and Locality Effects: Kpogo (2024)
This dissertation employs a sociophonetic approach to document sound change in Asante Twi, a language spoken in Ghana. Asante Twi is one major variety of the Akan language. Books: Positive Fremdsprachendidaktik: Sambanis, Ludwig (eds.) (2025)
Books: Semantik: Gutzmann, Turgay (2025)

Calls: Visual Patterns in the Phonetics of Gestures (DGfS 2026 Workshop)
2nd Call for Papers:
Human communication is a multimodal system. Research on the contribution of the visual modality - in terms of gestures - to linguistics has grown in the last years. While aspects of gesture’s meaning and function have been intensively studied, less attention has been paid to visual and kinematic features, which nevertheless form the building blocks from which multimodal utterances constitute their meaning. To fully grasp the meaning and function of gestures and gradual va
Confs: 7th Annual Modern Literatures & Linguistics Interdisciplinary Graduate Conference
In a world marked by rupture, polarization, and resistance, Beyond Fracture invites us to explore how moments of divergence—social, linguistic, aesthetic, political—can give rise not only to conflict but also to reinvention. At the same time, it calls us to consider the forces of convergence that bind and reconfigure, often in surprising or uneasy ways. Between fracture and fusion lies the space of possibility: for solidarity, for creativity, and for futures that move beyond protest and toward t

Review: Historical Linguistics: Matthew Townend (2024)
SUMMARY
This book deals with the activities of a group of nineteenth-century researchers who laid the foundations of English dialect study, giving an account of their methods, works and intellectual context. Central to the book is the claim that ‘the nineteenth-century discipline of philology is the primary context in which the period’s dialect study should be placed and understood’ (13), and a twin thread running throughout is the rise and eventual fall in popularity of this approach.
Discourse plays a central role in the social and cultural construction of gender. It functions as a dynamic space where meanings are negotiated, certain identities are legitimized, and others are marginalized. In the current context, trans people have gained increasing visibility, which has brought to the forefront the discursive tensions between dominant narratives that continue to pathologize and exclude, and alternative discursive practices that promote recognition, inclusion, or resistance t
