Taking Undergraduate Courses at McGill

To register for undergraduate (under 500 level) courses in German, Italian, Russian, or Spanish, graduate students must follow the instructions below.

STUDENTS ARE ADVISED TO START THE PROCESS 3 TO 4 WEEKS PRIOR TO REGISTRATION.

  1. Obtain approval from Languages, Literatures, and Cultures by submitting a completed Graduate Student Taking Undergraduate Course Approval Form to the undergraduate coordinator – Mr. David Roseman (David.Roseman [at] mcgill.ca (email)). If you receive approval from us, our undergraduate coordinator will place a permit override on your McGill record;
  2. You must then go to www.mcgill.ca/students/records/forms - this brings you to the Student Records “Forms” page;
  3. Scroll down to “For Students in Graduate Programs;”
  4. Click on “Request for Registration/Course changes.” You will have to log-in to view this form;
  5. You select the Department you are registered in;
  6. Select “I want to register for an undergraduate (below 500 level) course; enter the term;
  7. From there on, follow the questions on the electronic form and once complete, you hit submit.

This “Request for a Course Change Form” will be sent to your graduate department. If your department supports your request, your department will forward the request to the Management of Academic Records Office, Enrolment Services, along with the recommendation from the departmental GPD.

Other:
To register for undergraduate courses offered by the School of Continuing Studies, students must apply directly through the Continuing Studies website.
To register for courses offered by the French Language Centre, students must:

  1. Obtain a permission memo from their department
  2. Go directly to the French Language Centre with the permission memo
  3. The student will be given a Permit to Register themselves for the course via Minerva.
