Kate Reilly (M.Sc. 2012)

Kate Reilly (MSc 2012)I studied in the IWRM programme from 2011 to 2012. I did my final internship at WWF-Canada, where one of my main roles was to gather support for a proposal to change the operation of the dam at the outflow of Lake Ontario. The aim of the proposal was to help restore wetlands in the lake by creating more natural fluctuations in water levels while still balancing all other interests, including the need of riparian landowners and commercial navigation. Since finishing the internship, I have moved back to the UK where I have been working for an aquatic science consultancy. I mainly analyse water quality and flow data to identify the main pressures on river and lake ecology. Although I enjoyed the IWRM programme as a whole, the watershed systems, water quality and water policy aspects have been particularly useful.
