McGill to team up with BXVentures to create cleantech spinoffs
McGill University has entered into an agreement with BXVentures to facilitate and accelerate the commercialization of select cleantech projects that originate in McGill labs.
Established in 2022, BXVentures is Canada’s first venture studio that specializes in identifying and evaluating net-zero technologies and helping early-stage concepts become scalable businesses.
The firm adopts a ‘co-piloting’ approach with early-stage business ideas using a proven de-risking methodology and other value-creation mechanisms to guide projects along the path to sustained commercial activity. This includes providing initial capital, building a product market fit and offering operational support by its team of experienced entrepreneurs.
An international firm, the Canadian office of BXVentures is headed by Marc Guilbert, who previously had a long career in corporate finance, strategy, and banking. “By aligning with McGill University, internationally recognized for its cutting-edge fundamental and applied research, we can accelerate the launch of new research-based cleantech ventures in a wider range of fields than previously possible,” he said.
McGill University and BXVentures hope to announce a first joint endeavour in the coming months.
