Having just survived the incredible heat wave in Quebec, we can certainly say that summer is here! There are many events from the last month that I would like to highlight in my report this month:
Academic Day on May 30 was a resounding success. Many thanks to everyone who was involved on the scientific planning committee, the logistics committee, and the volunteers on the day itself! We received outstanding feedback and will hold a debrief session very soon to decide about future iterations of the event (photo gallery is here).
June was Indigenous History Month! Our very own Prof. Brittany Jock is on a mission for Indigenous health equity (read here) and Prof. Alex McComber has been involved in developing a new course to empower students to confront anti-Indigenous racism in healthcare (read here).
Spring is a time of Convocation for our graduate students and the Graduation Ceremony for our Family Medicine residents (photo gallery is here)! I send special congratulations to Dr. Rayhaan Bassawon who won the inaugural Dr. Geeta Ishwar Gupta Resilience Prize.
On June 5 the manager of the Department of Family Medicine, Andrew Marcheschi, and I, travelled to Val d’Or, together with Dr. Dominique Archambault (Associate Chair and Director of Distributed Medical Education, DME) and Sylvie Gravel (DME Administrator) to visit the new GMF-U building, which is fabulous!

Two faculty members were honoured at the prestigious Faculty Honour List for Educational Excellence: Dr. Douglass Dalton and Dr. Catherine Jarvis! Read the article here. Congratulatations to you both on this well-deserved merit!
The FMER-PRAM Crossroad Panel Discussions: Shared Decision-Making in Family Medicine Education and Practice on June 13 was host to many stimulating and thought-provoking discussions. Read the event summary here.
The political agenda will continue to occupy time and energy of the four Quebec Chairs of Family Medicine as we prepare documents about the PL106. But as the FMOQ reminds us, we all need to take holidays to recharge our batteries, so please go ahead and do so!
McGill Summer Fridays are coming up therefore our Administrative Staff will be out of office on Fridays, which means the pace at the Department will diminish somewhat. Also, we are skipping the July edition of the newsletter and so the next one will be published at the end of August.
Happy holidays to all!
