Engineering design process – a series of steps that engineering teams undertake while solving open-ended problems. The design process is iterative, meaning that the steps can be repeated as many times as needed to improve the design solution.

Mechanical design – a process of designing components, products, and systems that are mechanical in nature.

Mechanical design process – a part of engineering design process aimed at the mechanical design of a device or a system to perform specific functions with maximum economy and efficiency.
