Night at the Museum: A Fundraising Success

As an evening of exclusive access to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, including a dinner, musical performances, art appreciation, raffle & silent auction prizes, the Winter Outreach Gala is additionally an opportunity to give back to our community. This year celebrates the 21st anniversary of the Faculty of Dentistry’s Outreach program, and is the largest annual event held for members of the dental community and the Montreal community at large to support the Faculty’s Service to the Community Fund. This year, the Winter Outreach Gala saw performances from the I Medici di McGill String Quartet, Lara Fesdekjian, and Cyril Boulila.

The event was held in the Museum of Fine Arts, a venue that offered both beautiful views and ambiance to suit the evening. But the highlight of the evening wasn’t James Tissot’s October, but rather the important work the McGill Faculty of Dentistry does in the community. The evening was an opportunity to celebrate the Faculty’s successes, and to renew our resolve in our engagement with the communities we serve, in each of the clinics we operate:

McGill Mobile Dental Clinic (MMDC)

Free mobile dental care through local community organisations for vulnerable populations, servicing over 300 patients per year. Run by McGill dental students and volunteer dentists and support staff.

Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) Student Dental Clinic

Free dental care for refugee and new immigrant children under 10 who are not covered by medicare (RAMQ). All care is provided by dental students in their last year of training supervised by Montreal Children’s Hospital Staff Dentists.

Jim Lund Clinic at Welcome Hall Mission

Free dental service offered to low income and homeless Montrealers who don’t have dental insurance. Inaugurated on February 11, 2011 through a partnership between McGill Dentistry and Welcome Hall Mission, it is Montreal’s first permanent, free dental care clinic.

Summer Clinic

This year’s event was organised by six DMD students, Khalid Hossain, Stephanie Wiseman, Ryan Booth, Elena Aivaliklis, Georgina Lamontagne, and Nathaniel Weinstein, in addition to the many volunteers who pitched in on the day of to make sure that everything was in place when guests arrived.
