The inaugural McGill Desautels Management Science Case Writing Competition, organized by Assistant Professor (Teaching) Rob Glew and supported by EY, turns the tables on the traditional case competition format. Since May, 34 BCom students worked to write case studies on their experience with operations management and analytics on their summer work placements.

Congratulations to Desautels BCom students Reda Ouazzani Touhami and James Xu, and their teammates from Concordia University and Western University, for winning the National Finals of the KPMG Ideation Challenge. Over 750 applications were submitted for the Canadian finals of the competition. The team will compete for the global title in April when each country will present their solution/prototype to a panel of industry judges.

Students, colleagues, friends and family of the late Professor Richard Donovan have paid tribute to his legacy with the new Richard Donovan Graduating Prize in Case Excellence at McGill University. Veteran MMICC judge George Attar (BCom’82) and BCom alumna Shonezi Noor (BCom’14) reflect on the legacy of an inspiring colleague and professor.

Congratulations to Desautels MBA students who won first and second place at the John Molson Sustainable Business Plan Competition, along with the two coach’s awards.
The competition unfolded on October 27 among eight teams from McGill, Concordia and HEC Montréal collectively.

Congratulations to Desautels undergraduates O’Nell Agossa, Vera Barile, Alana D’Amico and Noemi Holczer for winning the inaugural 2018 Lazaridis International Case Conference hosted by Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario from Oct. 7 to 13, 2018, as well as to Vera Barile for securing the award for Best Speaker.

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), in partnership with the Bensadoun School of Retail Management, have announced their first-ever (R)Tech Global Retail Challenge – a case competition that seeks to address the complex issues facing the global retail industry.
The case competition will ask students around the world to develop creative ideas for reshaping retail in the circular economy and will culminate with a world-class finale in November at McGill.
A BCom student case competition team won the Montreal PRMIA Risk Management challenge for the second consecutive year. The roster of the McGill-Desautels team includes Simon Altman, Evan Coulter, Liam Maclure, and Valentyn Litvin. They are coached by Professor Sebastien Betermier.
The team will compete in Chicago for the International Championship early March, against 7 other finalist teams. PRMIA is the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association.
Professor Dror Etzion and BCom 2012 alumni, Benjamin Gruber and James Povitz (along with Raymond Paquin of Concordia University) have won 1st place in the Social Entrepreneurship track at the 11th annual oikos Case Writing Competition for their case entitled "Communauto: A Big Idea for a Big Market".
