Beginning May 12, construction will take place at the Macdonald Campus Library to address persistent condensation and leaking caused by inadequate insulation in parts of the building’s ventilation system. To carry out this work safely, special precautions are necessary due to the presence of asbestos in the Barton Building. A Sealed Access System (SAS), which allows construction work to be enclosed and contained, will be positioned throughout various library spaces over the course of the project.

From the week of July 2nd through fall 2024, foundation repair will take place on Redpath Hall & the McTavish wing of Redpath Library Building
The project consists of the first two lots (Lot 1, Foundation Repair, and Lot 2, Roof Repair) of the Redpath Library, McTavish Wing, building envelope rehabilitation project.

During the week of June 3, 2024, standard archeological and soil investigations will be conducted along McTavish Street around Redpath Hall and the McTavish Wing of the Redpath Library Building to assess the building envelope. Redpath Hall and the Redpath Library Building are part of a designated heritage site. Standard protocol requires that McGill conduct excavation work before starting any construction projects.
The exploratory investigations will be done in two phases:

Exploratory work will be carried out on the Redpath Library Building (McTavish side) from May 28 to May 31, 2024. The work will be related to upcoming foundation, windows, and roofing projects, and will be carried out in enclosures to control any dust, in accordance with Quebec CNESST regulations and cautionary asbestos conditions. There may be noise disruptions as a result.
We encourage you to study in the McLennan Library Building or another McGill library location during this time.

Please note that the exterior passageway between McTavish and the McLennan-Redpath Terrace will be blocked off for work on HVAC units on Monday, April 22.
During this period, the McLennan-Redpath Complex will be open its usual hours. For access to the Complex from McTavish, please enter further up the street, near Morrice Hall.

Contractors for the City of Montreal will be working on modifications to the east sidewalk on McTavish Street (between Sherbrooke and Dr. Penfield) from Monday, November 8 to Wednesday, November 10 inclusive. A security perimeter will be installed to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
