The McGill Breast Outcomes Research Group is led by a team of dedicated breast surgical oncologists who provide leadership in research, education, and mentorship. Each Principal Investigator holds a faculty appointment in the Departments of Surgery and Oncology at McGill University and is affiliated with one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals. Together, they guide a multidisciplinary research program focused on advancing surgical outcomes, cancer prevention, and equitable care in breast cancer.


Dr. Ipshita PrakashDr. Ipshita Prakash, MD, FRCSC

Dr. Ipshita Prakash is a breast surgical oncologist and the founding Director of the McGill Breast Outcomes Research Group. Her research focuses on surgical outcomespatient experience, and health equity in breast cancer care, with a strong emphasis on integrating patient-centered perspectives into clinical research.

As a principal investigator at the Lady Davis Institute and faculty member at McGill University, Dr. Prakash leads interdisciplinary projects that explore how treatment decisions, system-level factors, and equity considerations impact both clinical outcomes and quality of life. She is deeply committed to mentorship, playing an active role in the supervision of medical students, graduate trainees, and surgical residents.

Through her leadership, Dr. Prakash fosters a collaborative and inclusive research environment that supports innovation, academic development, and the advancement of personalized breast cancer care.

Dr. Stephanie WongDr. Stephanie Wong, MD, MPH, FRCSC

Dr. Stephanie Wong is a breast surgical oncologist and clinician-scientist whose work focuses on cancer preventionsurgical decision-making, and patient-reported outcomes. Her research aims to improve the quality, personalization, and patient experience of breast cancer care, particularly in individuals at elevated risk of developing the disease.

With training in both surgery and public health, Dr. Wong leads studies that explore how patients make complex decisions around prophylactic surgery, surveillance, and treatment options. She is also involved in developing and evaluating tools that enhance shared decision-making, with a strong emphasis on patient values and preferences.

Dr. Wong is deeply committed to mentorship and academic training, playing an active role in supervising medical students, graduate researchers, and surgical residents. Through her work with the McGill Breast Outcomes Research Group, she contributes to advancing evidence-based, patient-centered approaches to breast cancer prevention and treatment.

Dr. Sarkis MeterissianDr. Sarkis Meterissian, MD, MSc, FRCS, FACS

Dr. Sarkis Meterissian is a senior breast surgical oncologist, academic leader, and educator with decades of experience in clinical outcomes research and surgical education. He has played a central role in advancing breast cancer care through innovations in surgery, evidence-based clinical pathways, and interdisciplinary training.

As a Professor at McGill University and Senior Principal Investigator at the Research Institute of the MUHC, Dr. Meterissian has led numerous clinical studies aimed at improving surgical techniques, reducing morbidity, and enhancing the patient experience. He is widely recognized for his mentorship, having trained generations of students, residents, and fellows.

Dr. Meterissian’s ongoing contributions to research, education, and clinical innovation continue to strengthen the mission of the McGill Breast Outcomes Research Group and elevate breast cancer care at McGill and beyond.
