Dr. Ipshita Prakash Receives FRQS Junior 1 Award
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Ipshita Prakash has been awarded the prestigious Chercheurs-boursiers cliniciens – Junior 1 award from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS).
This award supports her innovative research project examining financial toxicity associated with early-stage breast cancer in the context of Canada’s universal healthcare system. The study focuses on the economic burden experienced by patients—including treatment-related costs, lost income, and indirect expenses such as transportation and childcare.
Although Canada’s healthcare system is designed to minimize out-of-pocket costs, many breast cancer patients continue to face significant financial challenges. Dr. Prakash’s research aims to better understand these realities, identify contributing factors, and advocate for equitable support systems that ensure all patients can access the care they need, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
We congratulate Dr. Prakash on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to the important contributions her research will make in advancing patient-centered cancer care in Canada.
