Welcome to the McGill Breast Outcomes Research Group

The McGill Breast Outcomes Research Group is a breast surgical oncology research lab based in Montréal, Canada, dedicated to improving the quality, delivery, and outcomes of breast cancer care both locally and globally. Through patient-centered and data-driven research, we seek to understand how breast cancer affects individuals across diverse healthcare systems and to identify actionable solutions that drive meaningful change worldwide.

Our Mission

We investigate the epidemiologycare delivery, and system-level performance of breast cancer services. By analyzing real-world data from both Canadian and international sources, we aim to identify gaps in care, reduce disparities, and propose solutions that enhance patient experienceclinical effectiveness, and long-term outcomes.

Our research spans the full continuum of care—from early detection to survivorship—with a strong focus on equityaccess, and innovation in surgical oncology.

A Global Perspective, Local Impact

While based in Canada’s publicly funded healthcare system, our research addresses challenges shared across global settings: delayed diagnosis, unequal access to treatment, and variation in quality of care. We integrate data and insights from international sources to inform evidence-based policy and clinical practice worldwide.

We regularly draw on:

  • Canadian provincial and national health databases

  • Population-level datasets for comparative effectiveness research

  • International literature and global oncology guidelines

  • A multidisciplinary network of collaborators in surgeryoncologypublic health, and health data science

Who We Are

Founded by Dr. Ipshita Prakash and Dr. Stephanie Wong, and currently led by Dr. Prakash, our lab operates within a tri-hospital network that includes the Jewish General Hospital, the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), and St. Mary’s Hospital. We collaborate closely with the research teams of Dr. Sarkis Meterissian and Dr. Ari Meguerditchian, creating a rich, collaborative environment for students, clinicians, and scientists alike.

Our trainees benefit from:

  • Access to large, multi-institutional and international datasets

  • Mentorship from faculty across surgical oncology, public health, and health services research

  • In-house support for biostatisticsstudy design, and research methods

  • Opportunities to present at leading conferences such as SSOASBrSASCOESSO, and SABCS

Join Our Global Research Community

We welcome:

  • Students and early-career researchers from across disciplines who are passionate about clinical research, health systems, and patient-centered care

  • International collaborators interested in joint projects, comparative studies, or expanding breast cancer research in low-, middle-, and high-income countries

Whether you’re seeking to contribute to high-impact research or to receive outstanding mentorship in a dynamic academic setting, our lab offers a welcomingcollaborative, and inclusive environment committed to improving breast cancer outcomes worldwide.
