About the McGill Breast Outcomes Research Group
Established in 2022, the McGill Breast Outcomes Research Group is a multidisciplinary team committed to advancing breast cancer research with a strong focus on surgical outcomes and cancer prevention. Our work is led by a team of breast surgical oncologists who serve as the group’s principal investigators.
Our PIs are based at leading McGill-affiliated hospitals, including the Jewish General Hospital, McGill University Health Centre, and St. Mary’s Hospital. They each hold faculty appointments in the Departments of Surgery and Oncology at McGill University, and are actively involved in academic, clinical, and research training.
We collaborate with a wide network of experts in genetics, medical oncology, pathology, and other surgical disciplines, which enhances the interdisciplinary scope and clinical relevance of our research.
Trainee Involvement
Our group includes both current and past trainees from a wide range of academic backgrounds. These include surgical oncology fellows, surgical residents, and medical students, many of whom play an active role in our research studies. A number of our trainees are currently completing their residency or fellowship training, while others have gone on to pursue medical school or advanced degrees.
Undergraduate and Graduate Research Training
We also welcome undergraduate and graduate students in the Health and Biological Sciences, including several who are pursuing their Master’s or PhD studies with our group. These trainees gain hands-on experience across multiple dimensions of research, including:
-
Conducting literature reviews and developing study protocols
-
Preparing submissions for research ethics approval
-
Collecting, managing, and analyzing clinical data
-
Drafting manuscripts and preparing research posters or oral presentations
-
Participating in lab meetings and collaborative research discussions
Our goal is to provide a rich and supportive environment where students build strong critical thinking, academic writing, and analytical skills.
Mentorship and Research Environment
Our principal investigators are highly skilled and dedicated mentors, committed to supporting the development of future clinician-scientists and academic researchers. They work closely with each trainee to offer individualized mentorship, promote independent research, and ensure meaningful engagement with all stages of the research process.
We foster a collaborative, inclusive, and rigorous environment, preparing trainees for impactful careers in medicine, research, and cancer prevention.
