Les programmes de formation se renouvellent

Dès septembre, les étudiants du MBA de l'Université McGill pourront accéder à une spécialisation en analyse de données. Ils apprendront ainsi comment utiliser de façon optimale les données recueillies par les entreprises afin de mieux connaître leurs clients et d'améliorer leur prise de décisions stratégiques. «On remarque beaucoup d'intérêt de la part des étudiants pour ce thème. Pourtant, même les grandes entreprises débutent dans ce domaine.

Couche-Tard to buy U.S. convenience store chain CST for $4.4B

Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. will buy U.S. retail rival CST Brands Inc. in a takeover deal worth $4.4 billion.

The two companies had been rumoured to be working on a pact since last week, and on Monday, the Quebec-based convenience store chain confirmed their offer.

..."What they have learned to do very clearly is to bring the best ideas from the acquisitions to the whole group and develop them," said Karl Moore, Associate Professor at McGill University.

But those jobs began disappearing in the 1980s as producers switched from underground mining to surface mining and mountaintop removal. More recently, mining operations have shifted to western U.S. states as the coal seams in Central Appalachia have become depleted.

Are you a strategic thinker or just a planner?

I made the point in the first of these columns that one of the main differences between leadership and management is the ability to have a strategic perspective and think strategically. This is universally expected of leaders, almost never taught to anyone formally, and therefore often marks one of the tougher transitions for very successful managers in becoming effective leaders.
