On November 12, 2015, researchers from across McGill campuses convened to promote connection and collaboration on the topic of climate change in advance of the potentially historic Conference of Parties (COP) in Paris, France. COP21, also known as the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, will be negotiating towards a solution which keeps global warming below 2°C through a legally binding and universal agreement on climate.
As we learn more about the horrific events that happened Friday in Paris, we would like to express our solidarity with the French nation. If you know alumni in Paris, students studying abroad in Paris, students who come from Paris and have family there or anybody from our Desautels community in Paris, please reach out to make sure they are safe. This September during Frosh week, the McGill Cryptocurrency Club (MCC) initiated a “bitcoin airdrop,” handing out paper envelopes with vouchers for bitcoin, a form of digital currency, to be redeemed within three months. According to Michael Gord, a U4 Management student and co-founder of MCC, over $1,000 in bitcoin has been given away to McGill students to date, with around a 50 per cent claim rate.
