Old habits die hard, even with the advent of online dating

Women are still hesitant about making the first move when it comes to dating, according to a new study about online dating that shows old-fashioned dating patterns still persist in the digital age.

The study’s findings surprised the researchers, including Jui Ramaprasad from McGill University, but it also turned up a piece of valuable information for women using increasingly popular dating sites to find a partner: don’t bother paying extra for the anonymity feature because it only lowers your chance of finding a date.

Negative rates, deficits and defaults

Japan’s, the US’s and Europe’s central banks and governments continue to fly by the seat of their pants, since none of their policies restored prosperity since the 2008 crisis.  Incomes stagnate, labor force participation is at historical lows, and though measured unemployment dropped, the fact that there are no pressures whatsoever on compensations suggests that the decline in unemployment rates no longer signals better times.  In Canada, the drastic drop in prices of natural resources and the value of debt backing that industry has brought particular shock-waves to finance, insurance, and

APEX 2016 is the brainchild of evenko’s Brent Steer, BCom’09.

The challenge of merging new acquisitions with company culture

There are two different kinds of acquisitions: ‘scale acquisitions’ and ‘bolt-on acquisitions’, and we tend to focus on the latter. We like to buy a technology and ‘plug it in’, because our sales force and distribution channel are second to none. The last six deals we’ve done were all about technologies or products that we wanted to own. In these cases, some of the management team stays with us, but we’re really taking on a new product and adding it to our existing culture.

B2ten foundation is Olympic champion Jenn Heil's legacy

Ten years ago Thursday, a pint-sized Jenn Heil stood atop the mogul field in Sauze d’Oulx, Italy, with no regrets — regardless of what might have happened over the course of the next 26 seconds.

The 22-year-old McGill University commerce student had a note from her psychologist tucked in her pocket that read: “I’m ready. I know it’s going to be great.”

And great she was, exploding out of the gate and landing two monster jumps to win Canada’s first medal at the 2006 Olympics.

Online dating hindered by anonymity feature

Those who pay extra to browse anonymously on online dating websites are likely to be reducing their chances of a match, new research from the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University reveals.

Professor Jui Ramaprasad and her co-authors found that the traditional social norm restricting women from making the first move remains dominant online and, as men aren't notified if their profile is viewed, they can't contact women who might be interested in dating them.
