Finance

Overview

Do you have what it takes to meet the increasing demand for expertise in a rapidly growing functional area of business?

Integrating strong theoretical knowledge with a strong focus on the real world, a Finance degree will give you an in-depth knowledge of finance theory, financial institutions, investment analysis, risk management, and applied techniques.

Begin with the basics (corporate finance, investment management) before delving into more specialized areas of finance such as trading simulations, mergers and acquisitions, pensions, sustainable finance, and behavioral finance.

Finance is available as both a Major and a Concentration.

In the Applied Investments course, students manage real money totalling $4.5 million. In the course on Investment Management, students have to find a real client and propose an asset allocation that suits the client’s need.

Students in the Principles and Strategies of Securities Trading course learn finance by trading in real time against one another. In the course on mergers and acquisitions, students have to work on tailor-made case that involves a real merger/acquisition.

Finance students also have the opportunity to support the McGill International Portfolio Challenge by preparing a case based on a real situation to be used in the University’s flagship case competition.
