Dentistry

Can be taken as: Professional Program

Founded in 1904, the Faculty of Dentistry educates leading oral physicians with a curriculum that emphasizes oral health and disease prevention. At the Faculty, students learn to manage complex problems rarely seen in traditional school clinics. They witness cutting-edge research first-hand, thanks to state-of-the-art facilities for periodontal and bone studies, and with unparalleled opportunities for clinical experience, students gain the skills and knowledge they need to provide comprehensive health care to their patients. The following two programs are offered:

Five-Year Undergraduate Program: Only applicants who are enrolled in the final year of the Sciences profile at a Quebec CEGEP are eligible for the five-year program. Students first complete a dental preparatory (DENT-P) year in the Faculty of Science, and then proceed into the first year of the four-year program.

Four-Year Undergraduate Program: Leading to the degree of DMD, basic and applied sciences are taught in conjunction with the Faculty of Medicine in the first 18 months of the program. Students then complete 7 months of pre-clinical training followed by 2 years of clinical training.

Important Note: In order to be eligible to apply to the Four-Year Undergraduate Program, applicants must have received an undergraduate degree or be in the final year of a course of study at a recognized college or university in a program leading to an undergraduate degree consisting of 120 credits over eight semesters following completion of high school. Applicants who have received a diploma of collegial studies (CEGEP) in the province of Quebec must have completed 90 credits (six semesters) in a Quebec university to obtain the required degree.
