Youth Digital Compass Keeps Kids Cybersafe

Published: 13 November 2025

Built upon years of research led by Professor Victoria Talwar from McGill’s Faculty of Education, Youth Digital Compass is an initiative dedicated to helping young people navigate online life safely, kindly, and confidently.
Launched in partnership with BRP’s Ride Out Intimidation Program, the program’s resources focus on four critical areas:
• Awareness: Raising awareness of cyberbullying and its many forms.
• Safety: Teaching youth practical steps to protect themselves online.
• Upstanders: Encouraging safe peer intervention strategies.
• Kindness: Promoting respect and positive digital citizenship.

Professor Talwar and her team have co-created videos and infographics with youth (ages 8–14), and provide essential guidance for parents.

Next Steps:
With BRP’s support, the team is focusing on evaluating materials, expanding resources for educators, and growing the library of multimedia tools.
