Professional Partnering Finale

The School of Information Studies at McGill University is excited to welcome 2002 Quebec Laureate, author, historian, researcher, content developer, consultant, and SIS graduate Dr. Dorothy Williams as a featured speaker on Friday, March 20th for the Professional Partnering Program Finale. Check out to learn more about Dr. William's remarkable contributions to the Montreal community and Canada.

You are invited to join us beginning at 6 p.m. in the Thomson House ballroom for appetizers and conservation. A cash bar will also be open. The event will begin at approximately 6:15 p.m.

While the event is being held to celebrate the first year of the school's Professional Partnering Program, we especially encourage those who may be interested in participating in next year’s Program to attend. This is a great opportunity to find out what the program is all about, meeting and speaking with some of the involved students and professional partners.

We hope to see you there!

CLA President's Visit, January 27, 2009

At the end of January the students at McGill’s School of Information Studies were pleased to welcome Ken Roberts, CLA President, to our school. Roberts presented and entertained a packed room of MLIS students at noon and later met and talked with students and professionals at an evening reception.

Roberts spoke about his career, his current activities as CLA president and the changes as well as the constants in the librarianship profession. To highlight the current trends in publishing and information distribution, he passed around a Sony E-Book Reader and discussed the merits of electronic resources. He outlined the importance of the CLA and other professional organizations within our field as tools of empowerment and change. Roberts also gave a strong message about the common values of information professionals who strive toward, and defend, intellectual freedom. Perhaps his most memorable advice for students was to make sure that our first job challenges us and allows us grow professionally. To wrap things up, there was a draw for CLA memorabilia and even a free membership!

Roberts was very approachable and shared a lot of interesting insights into the librarianship profession. His thoughts and advice will be remembered. We were very pleased he made the journey to visit us here!
