McGill students

Classes, laboratories and examinations are cancelled on Monday, October 5, 2026, in all Faculties, including the School of Continuing Studies, subject to the exceptions below.

Program exceptions

Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery program

Classes and other learning activities are not cancelled. For students in Years 1 and 2, they will finish by 4:00 p.m. Students in Years 3 and 4 will be given four consecutive hours to vote, either when the polls open or at the end of the polling period, depending on their clinical rotations.

Doctor of Dental Medicine program

Classes and other learning activities are not cancelled and will finish by 4:00 p.m. Students engaged in clinical rotations must consult their supervisors and follow the specific requirements of the institution in which they work.

School of Physical & Occupational Therapy

Classes and other learning activities for U3, QY and M1 students are not cancelled and will finish by 4:00 p.m. M2 students must follow the procedures established by their clinical affiliation sites.

Ingram School of Nursing

Classes, laboratories and examinations are not cancelled and will proceed as scheduled. Student schedules provide at least four consecutive hours free while polling stations are open. Students engaged in clinical placements or rotations should consult their clinical instructor or supervisor and follow the specific requirements of their clinical affiliation site.

Internships and clinical rotations in other programs: Students should consult their supervisors and follow the specific requirements of the institution in which they work.

Staff members

University administrative offices will remain open on Monday, October 5, 2026.

• All McGill employees who are eligible to vote must have at least four consecutive hours free to vote while polling stations are open, not counting the time normally allowed for meals. Employees whose regular work schedules already provide such a period do not require an adjustment.
• If an employee’s schedule does not provide four consecutive hours for voting, the necessary time must be granted without any reduction in pay or other penalty.
• Employees who require an adjustment should make arrangements with their supervisor in advance. In most cases, this requirement can be met by allowing employees to leave work at 4:00 p.m.

Advance Polling on Campus

Students, staff members and any other eligible elector who is on campus may vote at the polling station in Redpath Library, (main floor), 3461 McTavish Street, Montréal, QC H3A 1Y1, during the following hours:
