All individuals who are not SCSD students, faculty members, or administrative staff—including research personnel, collaborators, and temporary visitors—must request access to SCSD spaces. Before submitting a request, please consult with your supervisor or sponsor, who must approve your request, to determine the type of access required. Only SCSD full-time faculty and administrative staff can sponsor your request. Access options may include:
- Access card
- FOB (for access to elevator outside regular building hours)
- Room or office keys
- Booking calendar access
Approval of access requests is contingent upon compliance with the SCSD Space Use Guidelines. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in the suspension or revocation of access privileges.
Please submit your request using the form below:

Space Use Guidelines
- You are responsible for any individuals you bring into the space, including study participants, research participants, visitors, and meeting attendees.
- All users are expected to leave the facilities in good order. Please return equipment to its proper location after use, dispose of waste appropriately, and clean any dishes or other items used.
- Equipment must be treated with care at all times. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that all trainees and personnel receive appropriate training and understand how to safely and properly operate any equipment they use.
- SCSD equipment and supplies may not be removed from the facilities without prior authorization.
- Use of SCSD space is restricted to approved research, study, and teaching activities. Any other use requires prior permission.
- For safety reasons, users are encouraged to access the space during regular business hours whenever possible or in the presence of at least one other colleague or researcher.
- Any proxy card, FOB, key, or other access device provided to you must be returned upon the expiration of your access period or when access is no longer required
Security and Access
- Access cards, FOBs, keys, and proxy cards are issued for individual use only and must not be shared, loaned, or transferred to another person.
- Users must not permit unauthorized individuals to enter secured areas ("tailgating" or holding doors open for others) unless they are authorized visitors under their supervision.
- Lost or stolen access cards, FOBs, or keys must be reported immediately by emailing admin.scsd [at] mcgill.ca.
- Users must comply with all McGill University health, safety, and emergency procedures: https://www.mcgill.ca/campussafety/emergency-management/emergency-procedures-and-protocols
- Any accident, injury, safety concern, hazardous condition, or damage to facilities or equipment must be reported promptly to the appropriate supervisor or administrative staff on site.
