Presented by McGill scientists (faculty, staff, graduate students and Post Docs), Hot Science/Cool talks are suitable for high school, college (CEGEP) and/or adult audiences.
Talks take place from September to May in the Montreal area. Talks are posted on our website and can be requested by teachers interested in your topic for their classroom. If your talk is requested, we will contact you with their availabilities to set up a date. Talks usually occur in person at the requestor’s school, but may also occur online.
For graduate students: Please discuss your participation with your supervisor before requesting to become a speaker. We will email them to make sure that this is a good time in your degree progression to participate.
The following three Presentation Skills workshops by Skillsets or the equivalent — are required for graduate students. These are fantastic workshops that will help you give any type of talk to your research group/supervisor/thesis committee, to the public and at conferences.
- Presenting a Narrative: Academia and Beyond
- Effective Visuals: Complement don’t Compete
- Project Confidence while Presenting
A 1-hour coaching and feedback session with the Science Outreach team is also required for graduate students.
Thank you for offering to share your research and experiences in science. We appreciate the time and energy you put into these presentations and your help in bringing science to the Montreal community.
