From Script to Speed: How First Language Influences Reading
Half the world is multilingual but does one's first writing system shape how you read in English?
A new study from the McGill Language & Multilingualism lab first-authored by graduate student, Naima Mansuri, finds L1 script (alphabetic, logographic, alphasyllabic) impacts L2 reading speed & accuracy beyond usage. Co-authors include current and former lab members: Esteban Hernández-Rivera, Pauline Palma, Antonio Iniesta, and lab director, Professor Debra Titone.
