Initiatives

Opération Main d’œuvre

The Opération main-d’œuvre initiative aims to support establishments within the health and social services network (RSSS) in implementing various measures to increase internship placement capacity and satisfaction, regionalize certain non-medical internships, and establish agile processes to attract this future workforce.

To promote coordinated, coherent, and complementary actions between RSSS establishments and universities, these establishments withing RUISSS McGill are working together on several concrete projects. These initiatives aim to increase internship placement capacity, admissions, and the graduation rate of future RSSS professionals.

Unité de soutien au système de santé apprenant – Programme PATIenTS

Introduction – Improving Care Pathways Related to Respiratory Infections
The PATIenTS program (Life Pathways Improvement and Innovation Partnerships in Transition to Sustainable Health) supports the enhancement of life trajectories using the learning health system (LHS) model, in collaboration with the four Integrated University Health and Social Services Networks (RUISSS). As part of this program, RUISSS McGill is pursuing a project to improve care pathways related to respiratory infections.

Emergency rooms in Quebec are overwhelmed by respiratory infections. A major contributing factor to this issue is the lack of timely access to primary care for individuals with respiratory infections, leaving many without alternative options for care. There is a need to mobilize resources and strategies that help reduce the burden on emergency departments without increasing the workload of healthcare workers.

Objective
To concretely improve at least one care pathway related to acute respiratory infections within the RUISSS McGill.

Approach
This project will adopt a participatory approach, involving stakeholders (patients, clinicians, managers) from the outset in reflections, consultations, data interpretation, planning of the improvements to be implemented, and analysis of the results. This approach encourages closer and more engaged participation from stakeholders, which enhances the quality of the proposed improvements by ensuring they are acceptable and feasible, and supports the sustainability of the implemented changes.

Geriatre répondant

Introduction
In response to an aging population and a shortage of geriatricians in Quebec, the Gériatre Répondant project was launched to improve the accessibility and quality of geriatric care. Initiated in 2021–2022, this innovative initiative is supported by the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) and the Quebec Association of Geriatric Physicians (AMGQ). The Gériatre Répondant project is funded by the Institut de la pertinence des actes médicaux (IPAM).

Objectives
To improve access to specialized geriatric services across the province through innovative practices, while strengthening support for frontline healthcare professionals.

RUISSS McGill Pilot Project – CISSS of Abitibi-Témiscamingue

his project is part of the RUISSS McGill Schouela Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Seniors' Health (CEDurable), a center focused on implementing validated interventions to enhance the health and well-being of older adults. RUISSS McGill will roll out its pilot project in the CISSS of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, a region facing particular challenges in accessing geriatric care. The project aims to:

  • Provide healthcare professionals in Abitibi-Témiscamingue with remote weekday access to a geriatrician, leveraging the expertise of RUISSS McGill geriatricians.
  • Deliver training and mentoring to better equip local frontline teams to manage complex geriatric cases.
  • Maximize the use of telemedicine to overcome geographical barriers.

This initiative will not only improve the quality of care in the region, but also serve as a model for expanding the project to other underserved areas and eventually to the rest of the province.

DMSP Leadership Webinars

The webinars organized by the Table of Medical Directors of Professional Services (DMSP) of RUISSS McGill are established as a key tool for achieving knowledge transfer objectives. The guidelines call for regular sessions tailored to the specific needs identified by members of the table. These include the exploration of priority topics such as innovation, leadership, and resource optimization. Active contributions from directors, clinicians, and other relevant stakeholders are encouraged to enrich the discussions.
