Effect of a brief mindfulness intervention on cardiovascular activity in high-risk pregnant women

Supervisor: Dr. Blaine Ditto

I'm Monica Taing, and I worked with Kristin Horsley, Serena Mennitto, and Dr. Ditto at the McGill Psychophysiology Laboratory. We examined the effect of a brief mindfulness intervention on cardiovascular activity in high-risk pregnant women. Participants in the mindfulness intervention listened to an audio CD that guided them to focus on their breathing and specific parts of their body in a non-judgmental, accepting manner, while participants in the control group sat quietly. Impedance cardiography was used to assess cardiovascular function, specifically cardiac output, pre-ejection period, and total peripheral resistance.
