Approach

The Provost and Executive Vice-President (Academic) and the team are leading a university-wide consultation to shape the plan. We are asking students, faculty and staff to weigh in on McGill’s purpose, priorities, commitments and direction.

Through surveys, focus groups and stakeholder meetings, we are gathering feedback on themes that matter to our academic community.

Consultation Charter

The Strategic Academic Plan relies on the input of McGill members to build community, trust and uphold academic self-governance. This consultation is guided by key principles, from academic freedom to transparency. The Consultation Charter sets out the principles, the full theme list, how decisions will be made, and our commitments to report back.

Timeline

• September 2026: Online surveys and focus groups with academic and professional staff, students and alumni.
• September to October 2026: Governance and Faculty leadership consultations, including a presentation to Senate.
• October to December 2026: Campus-wide focus groups and meetings. Consultation summary shared with the community.
• December 2026 to February 2027: Initial SAP is drafted and released for community feedback.
• March 2027: Feedback incorporation to the final SAP.
• April to May 2027: Senate and Board of Governors endorsement.

Everyone in the McGill community is invited to:

• Watch for emailed surveys and fill them out. They will be sent to different stakeholder groups in September of 2026. Survey responses are confidential.
• Take part in Fall term focus groups (details coming soon!).
• Reach out to the sap.consultation [at] mcgill.ca (Strategic Academic Plan development team)
