A set of core ideas
The key ideas underlyng the Strategic Academic Plan are found in Principal and Vice-Chancellor Suzanne Fortier’s vision of a university that is open, connected, and purposeful.

A 21st century global university
A smart campus with robust infrastructure, McGill will embrace innovation and put sustainability at the centre of its operations. We will expand the mobility of our faculty and students and welcome faculty and students from across the world.
Five key objectives
McGill will be open to the world, striving to remain an institution of choice for international students and faculty, and increasing the number of opportunities for global engagement for our students. We will expand social, economic, and intellectual diversity among our student body and workforce as a matter of fairness and as a means to enrich the advancement of our academic mission. We will lead innovation in our academic programming and modes of delivery with the goal of implementing five online programs in five years. We will connect across disciplines and sectors, reducing administrative barriers to interdisciplinary teaching and research. We will connect with our communities to build relationships with educational, commercial and policy sectors in Montreal, in Quebec and across Canada.
