On October 30, 2025, the Plurilingual Lab at McGill University and Dr. Mi Yung Park from the University of Auckland co-hosted an international colloquium on linguistic discrimination experienced by bi/multilingual faculty and students in English-dominant higher education contexts.
The colloquium brought together a panel of distinguished scholars, including Drs. Lynn Santelmann, John Hellermann, and Steven Thorne from Portland State University (United States); Dr. Angelica Galante from McGill University (Canada); Drs. Joy Janzen and Yi Wang from Stony Brook University (United States); Drs. Stephen May and Peter Keegan from the University of Auckland (New Zealand); and Drs. Cristina Sánchez-Martín and Suhanthie Motha from the University of Washington (United States).
Held via Zoom, the colloquium drew an international audience and concluded with a lively discussion on how multilingual scholars navigate linguistic hierarchies in academia.
This event was sponsored by the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance (CSLP), co-hosted by the BILD Research Group, and supported by the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) at McGill University.
