Upcoming Public Lecture

The Kappy Lecture 2026
An Evening with Martha Wainwright
October 6, 6:00pm | Pollack Hall, Montreal
Presented by the Council on Palliative Care.
The 2026 edition is presented in partnership with the Schulich School of Music, McGill University
Join us for an unforgettable evening of conversation and song with acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright. In an intimate and moving exchange, Wainwright will reflect on a life shaped by one of music’s most celebrated families. Drawing on her extraordinary musical lineage—including Kate McGarrigle, Anna McGarrigle, Loudon Wainwright III, and Rufus Wainwright—she will reflect on grief, inheritance, resilience, and how music helps us navigate life’s most profound transitions. The evening will also feature live performances woven throughout the conversation, offering a rare opportunity to explore the ways art can help us make meaning of loss, mortality, and the realities of death and dying.

Events
Since 1996, as part of its mission to provide information about palliative care to the public, the Council has run a variety of workshops and lectures throughout the years. The workshops are usually run in the spring and fall and cover a range of topics from practical caregiving, how to access palliative care, living wills, communications, grieving and ethical issues. These workshops include the annual workshop held in memory of David Bourke - a co-founder of the Council.
As part of Palliative Care Week in May, the Council invites a well known speaker to present to address subjects of topical interest.
All these events are free and open to all.
With the help of NCS Multimedia, McGill University, the Council had been able to record its recent lectures which are listed here.
