New student-led club focused on women’s health
Under the auspices of the Nursing Undergraduate Society (NUS) Women's Health in Nursing (WHIN) is a new student-led club, offering a podcast, a vox-pop and infographics research posts on its social media platforms, with plans to host several events throughout the year.
Held on September 16th, the first of these events focused on Pap Smears/HIV, featuring an educational presentation and hands-on practice activities.
The club’s mission is threefold:
1) to raise awareness of critical, stigmatized, or underrepresented issues surrounding women's health and sexual health;
2) to organize strategic fundraising initiatives to financially support women's health research, community care initiatives, and internal organizational operations; and
3) to develop, reinforce, and advocate for the critical need for expanded scientific research, clinical trials and public health policy focused on women's health.
Kudos to club members Melanie Xie, Raluca-Mara Mare, Alyssa Perez, Maëlyss Gapili , Marie-Jeanne Lejeune, Helene Feng, and Andrea Lian.
VASC delivers student-led lecture for illness management course
On September 16th, the Vascular Access Student Club (VASC) delivered the first-ever student-led Illness Management lecture at the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN), bringing a peer-to-peer interactive approach and a new perspective to the classroom.
Under the supervision of faculty advisor Caroline Marchionni and the course professors, VASC executive team members Juan Jose Avila Amariles, Maria Laghdir, Marie-Sophie Baron, and Claire Zelter led the lecture for approximately 100 students from the BScN and Direct-Entry Master’s nursing programs. The lecture combined theoretical content with case studies, class discussions, and a hands-on presentation of infusion equipment with the newest best guidelines.
Special thanks to Interim BScN Program Director Bruna Fernandes, Caroline Marchionni, and Faculty Lecturer (lab educator) Elizabeth Murphy-Lavallé for making this milestone possible.
