Hosted on October 22nd in conjunction with Homecoming at McGill, the Ingram School of Nursing’s Alumni Tea was a tremendous success. The festive event brought together 40 alumni, students, faculty, donors, and friends of the School in celebration of our shared history and future.
The BScN Class of ’76 was well represented thanks to the efforts of Lynne MacGregor, who reached out to her former classmates and encouraged them to attend. Five outstanding international PhD students provided brief synopses of their individual research projects, with an emphasis on advancing health equity.
Sarah Chehayeb’s work focuses on nursing interventions for stem cell transplant recipients. Alenda Putra’s research sits at the intersection of implementation science, healthcare services, and equity for people experiencing housing insecurity. Daniel Elakpa, the first non-nurse to be accepted into our doctoral program, is a pharmacist whose work on point-of-care testing for Hepatitis C is helping drive policy change. Bachi Ebob-Anya is investigating ICU discharge experiences and chronic pain outcomes, while Robera Berhanu’s research is focused on advancing personalized care approaches for individuals living with Hepatitis B.
After enjoying refreshments and the opportunity to socialize, alumni were treated to a tour of the School’s state-of-the-art Satoko Shibata Clinical Nursing Laboratories, led by Lab Director Allyssa Zeagman, Interim Assistant Director Émilie Villeneuve, and ISoN researcher Argerie Tsimicalis. Guests were suitably impressed by our expansive, well equipped facility, and innovative approaches to simulation in education – a far cry from their student days when they conducted exams on each other in the basement of Wilson Hall!
